I don’t believe in Reiki!

2 minute read

The idea of something you can’t see or touch, but are expected to only feel, if at all you do, is enough to make sceptics out of a lot of people. I get it. When in doubt, I lay out the facts for myself.

  • The fact is that each day when I give myself Reiki, I feel lighter, brighter and so much more calm throughout the day. I feel happier and it’s like a knowing that all will be well. And even if it turns out to be a stressful day, it doesn’t affect me as badly as it used to. I can see that I am able to swing out of the bad mood faster than I used to be able to.
  • The fact is that before my first Reiki placement, I sucked at meditation. I could not sit quietly for more than 3-4 minutes and when I did, all I could think of was the myriad chores and items on my to do list. And now, I can easily do 30 minutes without trying too hard. That was a key realization. To not try too hard. And to not stop trying.
  • The fact is that it is okay to not know how or why it works. If you tried it and it helped you, great. Go with that. If you felt it did not do anything for you, it is perfectly okay to not have to believe in it. Do consider that it takes a few sessions to see change, much like exercise or pretty much any new habit in life.
  • The fact is that everyone accepts that wi-fi works between devices, over distances without any wires or any “visible” connections. TV stations, radio channels become accessible once we tune in to that particular frequency. Similarly, Reiki energy flows once it is tuned in to the receiver’s frequency. The practitioner is merely acting as a conduit for that energy. Energy is not connected to time or space so it does not matter how far the person is from the practitioner. It is okay to not understand how Reiki works if you can’t wrap your head around it, but simply to know that it does.

“Trust the process, you do not need to know how it works,
only that it does.”
